Echo Hawaii 2012: January 22, Prelude
January 22, 2012, Echo Hawaii Prelude: Aloha, Everyone!! Greetings from the beautiful Hapuna Prince Hotel along the Kohola Coast of the Big Island. It’s Sunday night, and all weekend long, our faculty and 300+ attendees have been gathering for Echo Hawaii, which begins bright and early at 6:30 tomorrow morning. It’s been a perfect couple of days so far, with 100% sun, perfect waves for boogie boarding, and turtles to be found by snorkeling just off our room. Here are a few pictures from the weekend. Tomorrow, the fun begins with systolic function!

Meanwhile, almost 8000 miles away in northwest India, Partho Sengupta is leading an ASE team of sonographers, physicians, and engineers in a mass echo screening of people with signs an symptoms of heart disease who have gathered at a huge (>1,000,000) meditation camp for Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan. Over the next two days, over 1000 echoes will be performed, uploaded into the internet cloud, and then interpreted by volunteer echocardiographers all over the world, including Echo Hawaii!

  Watch out for the wild turkeys!  (And the 50 or so feral goats who inhabit the golf course)
   

The kids arrive after 30+ hours of travel.  That’s Yngvil’s girls, Katarina (21) and Linn (19) in the center, with my son Daniel (22, do you see any resemblance??) on the right and his college friend Gordon on the left.
   

The sun is set.  Time to rest before the real work begins!
  Meanwhile, 8000 miles away, the ASE team is already scanning patients at the Medical Mission to India.
